 Nick Battaglia
JD/MBA Candidate | Transactional & Finance Law

Maurer Law '28 | Kelley MBA '29 | Elmore Scholar. Targeting transactional practice — M&A, private equity, and financial regulation — backed by three years of hands-on experience building data products and compliance systems in industry.

Why I Want to Work in Finance & Transactions

My path to law school runs through the intersection of complex data systems and the legal frameworks that govern them. Before Maurer, I spent a year as a QA analyst and ML engineer at a Chicago-based tech company, building revenue optimization models, leading BI audits, and navigating GDPR compliance on EU product deployments. That experience gave me a practitioner's view of how deals, data, and regulation interact at the business level.

At Maurer, I'm channeling that background toward transactional work: M&A structuring, private equity, financial regulation, and the technology-driven due diligence challenges that define modern deals. I am enrolled in the JD/MBA dual-degree program at Kelley to sharpen my business foundation and position myself for the finance-heavy work that leading firms in Chicago and New York handle every day.

M&A & Private Equity

Deal structuring, due diligence, and private equity transactions. My JD/MBA combination and analytical background make me well-suited for the finance-intensive work at the heart of transactional practice.

Data Privacy & Compliance

GDPR, CCPA, and emerging AI regulation frameworks, including hands-on experience building EU-compliant ML systems in production. A differentiator for firms advising clients on cross-border data risk.

Hands-on experience building and evaluating AI-powered legal tools, including a locally-run M&A due diligence agent. Understanding of how tools like Harvey and Legora are reshaping practice—from the inside.

Quantitative Research

SQL, Python, Tableau, Power BI, and financial modeling. Proven ability to translate complex data into actionable insights for business decision-making—a skill equally valuable in boardrooms and deal rooms.

IP & Tech Policy

Associate, IP Theory at Maurer. Focused on the intersection of AI, data ownership, and commercial law—issues that arise constantly in M&A and private equity transactions involving technology assets.
